MasterCard® SecureCode™

MasterCard® SecureCode™ is the newest product from MasterCard designed to safeguard your Internet purchases made with your First National Bank debit card. In today’s high-tech society, e-commerce is growing at a significant rate. However, so is online fraud. MasterCard and First National Bank of Canton understand this concern, and are working to reduce the amount of fraud within the online marketplace, and increase consumer confidence.

How does it work?

MasterCard SecureCode works the same way as a normal online purchase. When you visit a website of a participating merchant, and try to pay with your First National Bank of Canton debit card, MasterCard SecureCode will generate a request for you to enter your private SecureCode. This is done before the purchase is complete. The SecureCode is basically an electronic equivalent to a password to your debit card. It works the same as your PIN when making a purchase at your local grocery store.

If someone steals your card, and tries to make an online purchase at a participating merchant, they must know your MasterCard SecureCode in order to finalize the transaction, making the purchase impossible to complete. Once the MasterCard SecureCode has been entered correctly, the issuer then confirms the identity of the cardholder and the transaction is processed.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up for MasterCard SecureCode in one of two ways. You can either enroll your First National Bank debit card by visiting the following website, or by making a purchase at one of the participating merchant’s website. During setup, you decide what your SecureCode will be.

Activation during shopping:

Once the cardholder submits their order at a participating merchant, a window from the card issuer card issuer will appear and offer the cardholder an opportunity to enroll.

Currently, there are thousands of merchants worldwide who are either live or planning support for SecureCode. MasterCard is constantly targeting the top online merchants for adoption, and major processors and acquirers are adding new merchants daily. How do I know if I am visiting a participating merchant’s website?

You will know you are at a participating merchant’s website by locating the SecureCode symbol, or by clicking the link in the above section.
